Furniture Studio - Round Hardwood Table with Glass Top
Some glimpses of my studio
showing work in process.
Using a Form
The picture above shows wood being glued up on a form to make a graceful curve for the edge of a table. I use a lot of forms to achieve the curves for chair backs, rails and for the legs of my
Round Table with glass top. The wood for gently curving chair backs is cut into thin boards and glued in a stack conforming to the curve of the form. It is particularly interesting to use woods of
different color for a beautiful contrast. Sometimes I choose a different colored wood for the center board in a stack and lately I have been tapering that center board for added visual
interest.
The "Wintergarden" round table with the glass center shown below has legs consisting of three pieces of bloodwood glued each in an alternate direction. This makes the gracefully curving legs
extremely strong. The intent is for the table to last a very long time, standing up to bumps and bangs that occur through everyday usage.
